A private-public partnership is planning to develop a 20-story, 207-unit mixed-use tower at 7 Livingston Avenue, in downtown New Brunswick, N.J. The project, called the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center, will feature 207 residential units, 30,000 square feet of academic and office space, two multi-use, 465- and 253-seat theaters with rehearsal studios, and a 350-park parking garage, Jersey Digs reported.
The development team consists of the nonprofit New Brunswick Development Corporation (Devco), the City of New Brunswick, Middlesex County, the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, the New Brunswick Cultural Center, Rutgers University, Pennrose Properties, and the New Brunswick Parking Authority. Boston-based Elkus Manfredi Architects is responsible for the design.
The multi-story George Street Playhouse and the Crossroads Theatre buildings are expected to be demolished later this month, with groundbreaking expected this fall.
