The non-profit Providence House is planning to convert the four-story building at 178 Halsey Street and the five-story building at 243 Hancock Street, which are two blocks apart in southern Bedford-Stuyvesant, into a total of 21 supportive housing units. The apartments would be strictly geared towards formerly homeless or incarcerated women and mothers, DNAinfo reported. The two currently vacant buildings will receive a top-down renovation. The city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development is leading and financing the project. Work is expected to begin this summer, with completion in early 2019.
