Hines and Welltower Inc. have filed applications for a 17-story, 151-unit luxury senior housing project at 139 East 56th Street, located on the corner of Lexington Avenue in Midtown East. The project will measure 135,689 square feet and rise 218 feet in height.
There will be 12,220 square feet of retail space across the ground and cellar levels, followed by 151 residential units across the third through 16th floors. The apartments, which will exclusively rent to seniors, should average 818 square feet apiece. SLCE Architects is the architect of record.
The 9,236-square-foot plot is occupied by two- and five-story commercial buildings. Demolition permits were filed last July. Curbed NY first reported on the plans.
