The 10-story, 55,000-square-foot former Salvation Army shelter at 225 Bowery, on the Lower East Side, is now shrouded in construction netting ahead if its planned conversion into a 14-story, 200-key Ace Hotel. The progress on the project can be seen thanks to a Bowery Boogie report. The latest building permits indicate the expanded building will rise 170 feet above street level.
The 70,000-square-foot micro hotel will feature a 130-seat restaurant, ground-floor courtyard, rooftop bar, and fitness center. Omnia Group is the developer, with North Wind Group partnered in the project. HAKS is responsible for the architecture. Completion can be expected in spring 2018.
