Construction is now one floor above street level on the 11-story, 94-unit mixed-use building under development at 196 Orchard Street, located on the corner of East Houston Street on the Lower East Side. Progress on the structure can be seen thanks to photos posted to the YIMBY Forums. The latest building permits indicate the project will encompass 178,376 square feet and rise 120 feet to its rooftop.
There will be 38,452 square feet of commercial space across the ground, second, third, and cellar levels. An Equinox fitness center will take up much of that space. The fourth through 11th floors will contain 94 condominiums, ranging from studios to four-bedrooms and averaging 977 square feet apiece.
Magnum Real Estate Group and Real Estate Equities Corporation are the developers. Ismael Leyva Architects is the design and executive architect. INC Architecture & Design is responsible for the interiors and some of the exterior designs. Completion is expected in 2018.
