Mayor Bill de Blasio is designating $100 million to construct a missing stretch of the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway promenade between East 53rd and East 61st streets, located along the East River. The eight-block park will feature a bicycle path, walking space, vegetation, and seating, DNAinfo reported. The city’s Economic Development Corporation would build the project, with construction set to begin in 2019, followed by completion in 2022.
Various federal and state approvals are already in place. Completion of this span of the Greenway would leave only a small number of gaps in the 32-mile pedestrian and bicycling path around the edge of Manhattan.
